Rocky Waters

There is a roughness about your work that isn’t that bad in style, with some more practice and refining you might be on to something. But you’re not there yet. It’s a little too choppy. And you post your work at a much too small a scale. I rifled through your gallery and there were those even smaller. Maybe you’ve forgotten to check a few boxes on what size to display them at?

As for this work in particular I think you would have done better with a more smooth brush for the rocks, especially the two on the left as they have gotten a fuzzy, hairy appearance to them. The one to the right is more nicely done though.

I’m not too sure what to say about the sea, as it’s hard to tell with the image being this small. It certainly looks like unsettled waters, but it might look a bit too choppy on a larger scale.

This pictures biggest issue though is composition. It looks as if it’s a bit from the background from a much bigger piece, and not a whole work by itself. I think the concept of rocky waters might work better in a wider landscape format from a greater distance with more rocks and more sea.

This cc sounds pretty rough itself I think, but I think having seen your bookmark series 6 and the glimpse of the tiny but promising Just Smudge. Just Is.
